Kelly Jayne has a studio in Saltburn-by-the-Sea and is currently studying for a Masters in Art Psychotherapy. Her work has an incredible depth and intensity which Kelly describes as a therapeutic release or form of expression, bringing out something from within. Kelly encourages her work to form its own identity, which involves challenging the boundaries that we are taught about art making and what the viewer wants to see. In doing this she finds an essence of self that speaks through her work.
Kelly has been a practising artist since graduating in Fine Art in 2000. ‘Self’ showcases the balance between both elements of her career.
‘I have always found art making a therapeutic process. It has become more apparent in the last 2 years since starting my MA in Art Psychotherapy, how important art making is in my life, and the therapeutic qualities it can have. In my work I want to capture a reality of a person, a feeling or emotional state that might often be buried. Who is the person? What is their identity, their true Self.’
